Divas
v Northern Lights/Durango Betties/Wyoming Cowgirls,
Oct 28th 2006 (Stick & Treat Tournament): VIVA
DIVAS!Yahoo! We won our first game with a SHUT OUT
– BIG GOOSE EGG for our opponents! We had 29
SHOTS on GOAL with the “Northern Lights”
making 26 saves (it could have been a lot higher but
the hockey Gods showed some mercy). Congratulations
to MVP Ali for scoring the first DIVA goal for the
new season assisted by Bonnie Woods. In the second
period Mella slapped the puck in for our 2nd goal
assisted by Terry Stimac. The 3rd period Bonnie Woods
scored with an assist by Ali and Dana. It was ALL
Divas. The puck was in their zone even on a 3-5 power
play! Awesome first game ladies - the
D was as solid as ever with the help of our guest
player Alicia Pribramsky.
The next two games - Durango Betties and Wyoming Cowgirls
went the way of the other teams but Kathie McNeil
made OVER 60 SAVES!!!! – between the two games
and has never looked more sharp. Great job in the
net Kathie. We all thank you. Mella had one goal with
an assist by Terry in the game against Durango.
Divas
v Craig Puck Ewes, Sun Oct 29th 2006. Lost 1-2 (Stick
& Treat Tournament)Legs
felt a little tired after our three game marathon
yesterday, but overall everyone played a great game.
Terry scored our only goal, though we came close to
socring a few times. Once again Kathy had a great
game with 18 saves.
Divas
v Craig Puck Ewes, Sun Nov 4th 2006. Lost 0-4 Division
Game. Our
first league game in Craig was an eye opener for a
lot of us. Our new coach, Aaron, walked the bench
and coached us non-stop from the “pre-game”
W.O.W.” (words of wisdom) talk through the post
game P.A.M. (plus and minus) recap. The first period
the Divas had 4 shots on goal with 4 saves by Craig.
Kathie took 6 shots on goal with 5 saves (0-1). The
second period the Divas had only one shot on goal
with one save by Craig and Kathie took 6 more shots
with 5 saves (0-2). During the third period we only
mustered 2 more shots on goal with Craig making both
saves. Kathie took 8 shots on goal making 6 saves.
We lost 0-4. Coach Aaron was right when he said that
we could have beaten Craig….with few exceptions,
we just didn’t skate hard enough. He also would
not accept any excuses about skating short handed
or the fact that we sat in a car for almost three
hours before we got to the game. So beware ladies,
we have a coach who is going to demand a lot more
from us – but nothing more than what we are
capable of! Terry was the DIVA MVP. Craig is
not a destination fun spot on anyone’s list
of places to go, HOWEVER, those who did make the trip
will probably never forget the ride home. Thanks to
Cappie Green who subbed for us at the last minute.
She and Kathie shared the driving duty home and deserve
all of our thanks for getting us there safely. Terry
provided much of the entertainment, we had lots of
good food, and more than enough liquid refreshment
– (Terry Tooter – TT). Some went on to
short lived greatness at the Brush Creek (asked to
leave, must have been the new dress code requirement).
Reports of the “Hong Kong Flu” surfaced
on Sunday morning but quick recoveries were expected.
Thanks to all the TEAM players who made the effort
to arrange their schedules to play in the Craig Game
– it is never easy but always appreciated.
Divas
v Aspen Motherpuckers 2, Sat Nov 18th 2006. Won 5-2
Division Game.After
a sluggish start to the season in Craig, the DIVAS
came back strong against Aspen Saturday night beating
them 5-2. DIVAS started out skating strong but Aspen
managed to sneak the first puck in for a score with
5:18 on the clock. However, it wasn’t long before
TT Stimac answered with an unassisted shot between
the pipes at 4:46. Just before the end of the first
period, our Captains extraordinaire paired up for
the next score with Mella Wheatley slapping it in
net assisted by Gus Turner. Period two, Aspen came
on a bit stronger but the DIVAS managed to hold Aspen
scoreless while the DIVAS racked up two more goals
with TT Stimac slamming one in assisted by Mella at
14:16, and the next score by good ole Gussy, all alone,
at 18:20. Period three, the DIVAS picked up the pace
a bit. Aspen got their last point with 14:14 on the
clock. DIVAS had enough points on the board to take
the victory but that was enough for Gus who found
the net one last time assisted by “Broken Toe”
BJ – (way to go for the D, BJ!) at 13:36. The
DIVAS skated like a different team than the one that
played in Craig. The encouraging feedback received
by Coach Aaron, “the pacer”, makes all
the players want to skate harder and be better. The
Defense is definitely not the step child any longer.
The passing was crisp, positioning was good, and with
a little more aerobic conditioning the DIVAS have
the potential to be on top this season. Thanks to
Alicia for doing a great job subbing on Defense, and
to the two centers, Terry and Gus, who skated like
Joe Sakic all night! Terry Stimac who was the last
recipient of the “Player of the Game”
CUP, relinquished possession to MVP Sande Garton for
her hustle on D – (although not always graceful
having a tendency to self destruct – she has
good insurance). The DIVAS are in Vail Saturday night,
December 2, playing the Twin Peaks. Get your tickets
early at all Ticket Master outlets everywhere as this
game promises to be a good one!
Divas
v Vail Twin Peaks, Sat Dec 3rd 2006. Won 1-0 Division
Game Congratulations
to the entire team for the DIVAS first (but not last)
win against the Twin Peaks. It was a defensive battle
which the DIVAS ended up winning thanks to the only
goal of the game scored by Dana Bieliunas with an
assist by Nicole Sale-Harper late in the third period.
The first two periods were deadlocked but our forwards
seemed to be able to keep the puck in the Twin Peak
zone for much of the time. In fact, Mella Wheatley
managed to almost single handedly keep the puck in
the Twin Peak zone when the DIVAS were on a penalty
kill! Kathie McNeil was the winner of the MVP award
for her shut out and 26 saves! Coach Aaron gave high
praises to the defense: Sande “the wall”
Garton and her partner Jan Osteen along with Alicia
“poke check” Pribramsky with her side
kick BJ Garcia. Nicolette Dais, the Captain of the
Twin Peaks further complemented the DIVA D by saying,
“your defense was awesome…we just couldn’t
get it (the puck) past you!" Once again, Coach
Aaron kept us focused on sprinting to the puck first
and never giving up! He is simply inspirational and
just makes the team want to skate their best. Great
win DIVAS – Great TEAM effort! Thanks to Alicia
and Bonnie for subbing for us and doing an awesome
job.
Divas
v Glenwood Ice Queens, Sat Dec 10th 2006. Won 5-1
Division Game DIVAS
are off to a great start this season. Another win
against Glenwood 5-1. Martha Miller started the DIVAS
off with her first goal of the season slamming in
a rebound off a shot by Lara Large with 8 minutes
remaining in the first period. The forwards kept the
pressure in the Glenwood zone entire first period
as Kathie McNeill only took two shots on goal and
the DIVAS had 12 on the Glenwood goalie. The 2nd period
Glenwood picked up the pace a bit but the DIVAS scored
another goal by Gus Turner ast 7:31 assisted by Mella
Wheatley (who once again stick handled the puck by
herself in the Glenwood zone giving Gus enough time
to smoke an entire cigarette). Kathie took 4 shots
on goal and allowed Glenwood one “gimme”
goal out of mercy with 3:31 on the clock. DIVAS had
7 shots on goal with one save. Terry Stimac scored
a “:Hat Trick” in the 3rd, in spite of
recovering from a bad cold. She was unassisted on
one, and assisted by Gus and Dana on the last two.
(13:50, 4:50, and at 1:22). Kathie blocked 5 shots
on goal, and the DIVAS had 7 shots on goal with 4
saves. Martha Miller was awarded the DIVA MVP for
her speed on the ice and capturing her first of many
goals to come. All her boys were in the stands watching
their Star Mom. Kathie took a total of 11 shots on
goal with one save and the Glenwood goalie took 26
shots on goal with 21 saves. DIVAS should like those
stats. Thank you to Tim and Henry managing the bench
in Aaron’s absence. Also thanks to Jan Osteen’s
hubby, Greg, for running the clock with no notice!
A schedule for scorers and clock runners is forth
coming!
VIVA
DIVAS!
Divas
v Steamboat Storm, Sat Jan 6th 2007. CANCELLED - SORT
OF Division Game
Divas
v Steamboat Edge, Sun Jan 7th 2007. Won 3-1 Division
GameA
snowy ride to Steamboat for a 6 am game is certainly
ok in my book if you ride home with one more “W”
on your record. The DIVAS scored the first goal (always
a good sign) when Jen, who in spite of her sunning
and surfing in Maui has obviously not lost her hockey
skills, slapped in a shot assisted by Terry “TT”
Stimac. Kathie took 5 shots on goal with 5 saves.
DIVAS had 6 shots on goal with 5 saves. The Edge came
back a bit stronger in the 2nd period scoring with
5:13 on the clock. The DIVAS did not manage to score
in the 2nd but Dana did get a High Stick call. As
she batted her eye lashes and flashed her pearly whites
at the ref pleading that she lost her balance and
it was an accident, the ref reluctantly directed her
to the penalty box anyway. Nice try Dana! Capt. Gus
did her best to keep the DIVAS skating hard and upbeat
(not easy an easy task as a player) but Coach Aaron’s
keen bench observations and subsequent hockey words
of wisdom that he manages to give all his players
was missed. The 2nd period ended with the score
1-1. Kathie took 6 shots on goal with 5 saves and
DIVAS had 9 shots on goal, but the EDGE goalie managed
to save all 9. The third period brought some great
action on the ice. Ali was sent to the penalty box
for checking at 6:38. Being newly married I suppose
(you know how you lose your flirtatious ways when
you get married), she didn’t even try to assuage
the ref for a reversal of the call. Mella, Martha,
Sande, and Jan became the penalty kill “box”.
As the BOX moved up the ice with Martha battling her
way up the boards with the puck into the Edge zone,
she took a shot on goal which Mella was able to slam
the rebound home for a great short handed goal at
6:56. Three minutes later Gus popped in an insurance
goal assisted by Jen with 4:10 remaining. Lara, who
usually lithely speed skates under the radar, let
her presence be known by checking an Edge player twice
her size. She too went quietly to the PB. Kathie took
only three shots on goal with three saves and the
DIVAS had 5 shots on goal with 3 saves. DIVAS continue
their win streak on the road with a 3-1 win over the
Steamboat Edge. Mella received the MVP award for scoring
a short handed goal (first this season – first
ever for team DIVA???) Congratulations Mella - well
deserved! We host CRAIG this Saturday at 3:15 pm in
EAGLE so let’s show them that our first game
was just an anomaly! KEEP THE “W” STREAK
ALIVE!
Divas
v Craig Puck Ewes, Sun Jan 14th 2007. Lost 4-0 Division
Game The
game against Craig certainly did not go the way we
expected or desired. Craig scored their first goal
in the 1st period at 7:40 then their 2nd goal shortly
after with 6:00 minutes on the clock. The DIVAS had
5 shots on goal with 5 saves by the Craig goalie and
Craig had 7 shots on goal with 5 saves by Kathie in
the 1st period. The 2nd period was more of the same.
The 3rd goal by Craig came with 6:37 on the clock
and the 4th (final) Craig goal came with 3:14 on the
clock. Craig had a total of 8 shots on goal with 6
saves by Kathie and the DIVAS had 7 shots on goal
with 7 Craig saves. The DIVAS seemed to come alive
in the third with 15 shots on goal but, unfortunately,
Craig made all 15 saves. Craig was limited to 9 shots
on goal with 9 saves. End score 0-4. We only had one
ref who announced in the beginning that he would be
fairly lenient on penalties since he was alone and
he could only see out of one eye. Hence, the game
was played with no penalties called on either side.
Congratulations to Laura Cerny who received the MVP
cup for being one of the more alert and focused DIVA
players on the ice. WE definitely need to step it
up this week-end against the Twin Peaks if we want
to get back in the WIN column. You all know some of
the Twin Peak players were carefully “scouting”
our game against Craig and they will hit the ice ready
for revenge on Saturday! So let’s all come prepared
and ready to skate hard with determination to SCORE
BIG and show the Twin Peaks that our win against them
was NOT a fluke and we are a team to be reckoned with!
Divas
v Vail Twin Peaks, Sat Jan 20th 2007. Lost 3-2 Division
Game No
one will deny that the DIVAS did not show up for the
game against the Twin Peaks fired up and eager to
win but sometimes, no matter how well you prepare,
plan, and execute, you come up short. The Peaks were
fired up as well and were the first to get on the
board at 12:25. Gus Turner countered with an unassisted
goal at 6:55. Just before the end of the first period,
the DIVAS took the lead with an unassisted goal by
Mella Wheatley (or did the other half of M&M assist?).
Kathie McNeill was pounded with 15 shots on goal with
14 tremendous saves and the Peak goalie, Joetta Stocks,
took 8 shots on goal with 6 saves. DIVAS 2 - Peaks
1 The second period was hard fought by both teams
ending with no score and the DIVAS clinging to a 2-1
lead. Both teams did a good job of controlling the
puck as Kathie took only 4 shots on goal with 4 saves
and Joetta took 6 shots on goal with 6 saves. The
fight continued in the 3rd period with pressure on
both sides. The M & Ms score together and take
penalties together: Mella Wheatley took a holding
penalty at 12:24 and was soon “assisted”
in the box by Martha Miller for tripping at 10:44.
Sometime in between the M & M penalties, the Twin
Peaks got lucky by scoring an “off side”
goal at 11:31. The final go ahead goal by the Peaks’
Nicolette Dais came at 8:04. Aaron pulled the DIVA
goalie with less than a minute on the clock. The spectators
were on their feet, as were both benches, cheering
on their favorite team and players. The DIVA “A
Team” pressured the Peaks hard in their zone
but just couldn’t get the puck in the net with
the game ending 2-3 in a hard fought loss for the
DIVAS. Kathie went back to work taking 12 shots on
goal with 10 saves and Joetta took only 3 shots on
goal with 3 saves. Kathie showed why she gets the
big money with a game total of 31 shots on goal and
28 saves. Joetta took 17 shots on goal with 15 saves
for her game total. Great job in the net Kathie. Congratulations
to Jan Osteen who played an awesome game of D and
was the deserving recipient of the DIVA MVP Cup Award.
A well played game by all….. and, we do get
one more shot at the Twin Peaks on February 24
Divas
v Aspen Motherpuckers, Sat Jan 27th 2007. Lost 4-3
Division Game
The DIVAS hit the ice a bit
“off” their game. Aspen took immediate
advantage with Aspen’s #21 scoring first at
14:13. The Divas tied the score at 9:17 with a shot
by TT Stimac assisted by Mella Wheatley. Aspen’s
#21 scored again with 4:07 on the clock ending the
first period 1-2 in favor of Aspen. Kathie took 15
shots on goal with 13 saves and the Aspen goalie took
4 shots on goal with 3 saves. The DIVAS came alive
in the 2nd period with a score by TT Stimac off a
center ice pass from Sande Garton at 12:50. It was
all TT trust me (the boys in the box must have misunderstood
the refs). Mella scored the DIVA’s 3rd goal
with a nice top shelf shot in the net with a feed
by TT at 7:51. Second period ended DIVAS up 3-2. Kathie
took 5 shots on goal with 5 saves and Aspen took 6
shots on goal with 4 saves. Unfortunately, the third
period was all Aspen. They scored at 12:36, 10:30
(#21 again), and the last goal at 3:33. TT took a
penalty for the team at 3:06 for back checking. DIVAS
had zero shots on goal in the third and Aspen pounded
Kathie with 16 shots on goal with 13 saves. Kathie,
once again, did an awesome job for us in the net.
Laura Cerny was the MVP winner this week. Congratulations
Lady Patron! It was a disappointing loss but we have
more games to play. So, let’s work on our “Ju-Ju”
this week, have some fun, and just skate like we know
how and we’ll get back in the “W”
column! See you all Friday night. PS. Because some
of you were curious, the Aspen roster had no new players
but they did have 5 less players this game than when
we played them in Aspen (if that all makes sense).
Divas
v Fatty's Fury, Sat Feb 3rd 2007. Non-Division Game
Game Cancelled , due to weather?
and not enough Breck Players.
Divas
v Steamboat Storm, Sat Feb 10th 2007, Lost Division
Game 3-0.
Divas taken by Storm. Another
tough loss but not without some hard skating by the
Divas. The first period had some good and bad. The
good is the Storm had 10 shots on goal and Kathie
made all 10 saves. The not so good was… the
Divas had only one shot on goal with the Storm making
that save for a 0-0 end of the first. Good defense
by the Divas. At 8:05 in the second period, the Storm
got lucky when a “miscue” on the puck’s
location allowed the Storm to zero in on it for a
score. Then, within a minute they managed to slap
it in again ending the 2nd period 0-2. The Divas fought
hard and managed to get a few more shots on goal (8)
but not luck landing the puck in the net. Kathie took
7 shots with 5 saves. The Divas managed to hold them
for most of the third period until the last minute
of play when the Storm scored again at 1:27. Kathie
took 9 shots on goal with 8 saves and the Storm took
4 shots on goal with 4 saves. DIVAS had two penalties
– Sande in the first for slashing (whaaaa?)
and a team penalty for “too many women on the
ice” in the third (which Martha graciously served).
MVP - Mella. Kathie’s husband kindly taped our
entire game. I am anxious to see the tape as I am
sure all of you are. I am happy to offer my house
for a pre-practice film review or post practice. The
film may open our eyes to finding our way back into
the win column. LET’s GET OUR DIVA JU-JU back!!!
Enough is enough!
Divas
v Steamboat Edge, Sat Feb 17th 2007, Won 5-1 Division
Game. Divas
jump back into the victory column with a big win over
the Steamboat Edge on Saturday night in Eagle, 5-1.
Divas were short two players. Coach Aaron Beckman
decided to go with three rotating D and three full
lines of forwards. Coach wanted an offensive game
and he got one. The first period saw no score but
the DIVAS were strong keeping the puck in the Edge
zone, and getting their shots on goal. The Edge goalie
took ten shots on goal making 10 saves and Kathi took
only three! The DIVAS scored first at 11:19 with a
shot by Dana Bieliunas with a feed from Mella Wheatley.
Soon after, the Edge center dug the puck out of Kathie’s
glove for a score at 10:39. Nicole Sale-Harper dropped
in the go ahead goal with 1:01 remaining in the 2nd
period. Kathie took 5 shots on goal with 4 saves and
the Edge goalie took 12 shots on goal with 10 saves.
In the 3rd, the Edge kept up their intensity but the
DIVAS refused to give up and stayed strong. For the
first ten minutes, there was no score but the Divas
continued to wear down the Edge goalie with shots
on goal. Finally, at 5:52 in the third, Mella had
a textbook breakaway and slammed her shot into the
net making the score 3-1. However, no DIVA complacency
in this game! Thirty seconds later, at 5:26, Dana
had another DIVA breakaway and popped in the 4th goal
for the DIVAS. The final goal came at 3:48 by BJ Garcia
with an assist from Jen Steane. Kathie took 3 shots
on goal with 3 saves and the Edge goalie took 16 shots
on goal with 13 saves. Shots on Goal Game total: DIVA’s
Kathie - 11 with 10 saves …. Edge – 38
with 33 saves!!!!!!!! This was a giant team effort
and EVERYONE contributed! Laura Cerny, Jan Osteen,
and Sande Garton played a great game of defense getting
several good shots off from the point and helping
keep the puck in the Edge zone. The forward lines
put the points on the board which kept us in the game
and gave Kathie a bit of a break. Although Kathie
did say she was getting a bit “cold” from
the lack of action….I am all for having her
wear another T-neck! Congratulations to Dana Bieliunas
for receiving the DIVA MVP CUP award for her lightening
speed and scoring efforts. Tonight the DIVAS take
on Glenwood at Glenwood so let’s bring that
DIVA JU JU and break our shots on goal record!
Divas
v Glenwood Ice Queens Sat Feb 18th 2007, Won 3-2 Division
Game. There
is JU-JU and ju-ju. We had the JU-JU on Saturday night
but only the ju-ju Sunday night but as Coach Aaron
says – a win is a win! Both teams hit the ice
with determination but the Diva’s Nicole Sale-Harper
was the first to get the puck in the net only to be
nullified by the refs for a goal crease violation.
The Diva’s next scoring attempt did count with
a tip in by BJ Garcia assisted by Jen Steane and Lara
Large. Kathie took 3 shots on goal and made 3 saves
while the Glenwood goalie took 6 shots on goal and
made 5 saves. 1- 0 End of First. The Divas picked
up the pace a bit in the second increasing their shots
on goal to 12 with the Glenwood goalie making 11 saves.
At 1:24, Sande shot from the point and Jen’s
skate tipped the puck into the net. After a referee
review (to insure it was not kicked into the net),
the goal counted – good thing. Kathie
took only 3 shots on goal. 2-0 end of 2nd Period.
The Divas were pressured hard by the Glenwood team
in the third. At 9:54, the Glenwood team scored their
first goal of the game. Mella Wheatley answered at
3:35 with a sweet shot in the net to bring the score
to 3-1 going into the final minutes of the game. Unfortunately,
Glenwood scored again at 1:53 making it a battle to
the last second. Glenwood pulled their goalie but
the Divas hung on to claim the victory 3-2. Kathie
took 10 shots on goal with 8 saves and Glenwood took
10 shots on goal with 9 saves. Game Total: Kathie
17 with 15 saves…..Glenwood 28 with 25 saves.
Congratulations to Jan Osteen who received the MVP
DIVA CUP for her solid Defensive play. The Diva shots
on goal are improving but Coach Aaron still thinks
we need to skate harder through the puck ALL the time.
The DIVAS will miss Aaron while he marries off his
sister in Dallas/Ft. Worth. Practice is still on sprints
and ALL! Let’s bring the BIG JU-JU next week-end,
sprint hard, skate hard, look up (right. left, east,
west), and WIN BIG!
Divas
v Vail Twin Peaks, Sat Feb 25th 2007, Won Division
Game 3-2 in OT. DOMINATING
DIVAS:This game had a lot of action and both goalies
were right in the middle of it all! Both teams hit
the ice hard and eager to dominate but it was fairly
even throughout the first period which produced no
score. Kathie McNeill took 11 shots on goal and Joetta
Stocks had 12 with 12 saves. The skating was fast
and the heat was on in the second period. Each team
took a penalty: the Twin Peaks’ Laurie Mullen
for slashing and the Diva’s Martha Miller for
tripping – she maintains her innocence. Both
teams were successful in their penalty kills and the
2nd period ended with no score. Kathie took 14 shots
and Joetta had 15. The battle continued in the 3rd
with the Peaks’ Nicolette Dais putting the first
point on the board at 11:36. Four minutes later at
7:23 Dana B. slapped the puck in the net to tie the
score with an assist from Ali “Killer”
Katz. At 5:43, Terry “TT” Stimac had the
go ahead goal assisted by Gus Turner. Again, each
team had a penalty, the Twin Peaks for tripping, and
the Divas(LC) for high stick – of course, we
were innocent, again. The crowd was going wild and
it looked like the DIVAS were going to claim victory
but with 26 seconds left on the clock, Laurie Mullen
took a pass from Nicolette and tipped it in the net
to tie the score AGAIN! Kathie had 11 shots on goal
with 2 saves and Joetta had 12 shots with 10 saves
The clock was set for 5 minutes of sudden death OT.
The CU Grad fans were out of control screaming, yelling
– GO BLUE! With 2:02 on the clock Gus and Terry
raced down the ice on a breakaway and TT shot the
puck past Joetta on a pass from Gus to win a very
close and very exciting game for the DIVAS. Kathie
took 3 OT shots on goal with 3 saves and Joetta had
2 shots on goal with one save. GAME TOTAL for the
dueling goalies: Kathie 39 with 37 saves and Joetta
41 shots with 38 saves! Terry “TT” Stimac
received the well deserved MVP Cup award for her two
great scores FANTASTIC job in the net Kathie and a
just great TEAM effort by all!!!!
Divas
v New York Misfits Fri March 2nd 2007, Tied Non-Division
Game 3-3 in OT.
Lara Large scores her first goal of the season. The
Divas managed to comeback and tie the game with the
ladies from New York
Divas
v Steamboat Storm March 11th 2007, Division Game Win
4-1.
The 9 Corn Fed Divas blazed to victory in Steamboat
last night against the Storm; a team we have only
defeated 1 time before in our 3 season history! The
Storm scored first in the 1st period with an unlucky
pop-up off of Kathie McNeill's normally sticky goalie
stick, but the Divas were un-phased and that wasthe
last the Storm would see on their side of the scoreboard.
Soon after (4.36), Ali Katz put one in on the top
shelf off a pass from the high slot from Lara Large.
The next Diva goal (1.15)was a Barbie-pretty wrist
shot by Mella Malibu Wheatley, assisted by Terry TT
Stimac. The shot managed to also tip off of Jen's
stick to head into the goal. Followed within seconds
(7 to be exact) by another tip-in goal by Ali Katz-like
Reflexes, off a shot by Dana Miss B Bieliunas. The
Divas shooting onslaught slowed a bit in the 3rd period,
but the decisive win was nicely sealed by a beautiful
break-away goal in the final seconds of the game by
TT. The final score was 4-1 Divas, with 22 shots on
goal to the Storm's 10. Both teams managed to serve
three penalities. Our THREE defenders (including celebrity
guest D, Gus Turner) were rock solid and superhuman
in their Olympic-ice hustling, as was goalie, Kathie
McNeill.
Divas
v Fatty's Fury Breckenridge Fri March 16th 2007, Division
Game. Fatty’s
Fury had a coin toss to see which one of their players
would go in the net as goalie and the loser of that
coin toss was put to the test in the first period
as the Divas had five goals before the buzzer finally
went off. Mella Wheatley started the landslide with
the first goal unassisted within the first minute
of play, then Jen Steane scored at 9:12 with an assist
from Mella, then at 8:10 Lara Large scored with an
assist by TT Stimac and Martha Miller, then Terry
scored unassisted at 3:10, with Ali Katz slapping
in the final goal of the first period assisted by
Dana Bieliunas with 1:64 on the clock. Phew! Kathie
took 5 shots on goal with 5 saves and Fatty’s
goalie took 11 shots on goal with 6 saves. The second
period Fatty’s tried, in vain, to make a come
back. They had a short bench of 8 players to our short
bench of 11. Gus Turner was the first to score unassisted
with 11:58 on the clock. The Divas only other goal
of the second period came off the stick of Ali Katz
assisted by TT Stimac with 1:30. End of 2nd period
Divas 7, Fatty’s 0. Kathie got a little busier
with 7 shots on goal and making all 7 saves. The Fatty’s
goalie took only 6 shots with 4 saves. The third period
was running time since the Divas were ahead by 7 goals
- more or less assured of another “short bench”
victory. Just to be sure, Ali “Killer”
Katz got her first Hat Trick of the season with an
unassisted goal at 12:05. Congratulations Ali! Jen
Steane scored her second goal assisted by Jan Osteen
at 5:32. Gus scored our last goal of the game at 3:37
assisted by Jen. Jen had a great game and was awarded
the DIVA MVP Game Cup. Fatty’s had a lucky score
at 6:07 in the third to make the final score 10-1
DIVAS! Kathie took on two shots with one save in the
third and the Fatty’s goalie took 5 shots and
made two saves. Goalie game total: Kathie McNeill
took 14 shots on goal with 13 saves and Fatty’s
goalie took 22 with 12 saves. Practice next

v Arapahoe Chill, Sun April 1st 2007, Division Game.
The
Team song for the Arapahoe Chill must be “Let’s
Get Physical” (an oldie) … I like the
way the DIVAS started off the first period. A lot
of points on the board, early, is a VERY GOOD THING!
Nicole started things off at 10:37 with an assist
from Jen. AT 6:26 Mella rammed one home with an assist
from Terry and BJ. Then, perfectly positioned in front
of the net, Ali dumped one in assisted by Terry and
Gus. The final score of the first period came off
the stick of Terry assisted by Ali with 1:27 left
on the clock. End of first, DIVAS 4 – Arapahoe
Chill ZIPPO! Kathie took 4 shots on and the
Chill goalie took 10 shots making 6 saves. The Chill
picked up the pace in the 2nd which ended without
a score – DIVAS 4 Chill still ZIPPO! Kathi took
6 shots on goal and the Chill took 6 shots on goal.
The game was tight again in the 3rd…DIVAS slowing
down a bit (still sore from MWHL tourney – just
the old broads – not ME!) and the Chill were
still going at it. But at 10:13, the Chill managed
to slip one in our net for their first and only score.
At 5:02 Jen landed the last DIVA goal in the net,
unassisted, for a final score of 5-1 DIVAS! The Chill
took 7 shots on net with 6 saves and Kathi took 6
shots on net with 5 saves. Game totals: Kathie 16
shots with 15 saves. The Chill 23 shots with 18 saves.
The Chill had four penalties (should have been a lot
more) and one Darling Diva had three. Congratulations
TEAM Diva on a nice win – good defense (great
job in the net Kathie) and offense, solid shots from
the blue line by D, good passing, looking up, controlling
the puck…. everything Coach Aaron has been working
so hard on with us at practice all season. Practice
in VAIL at 6:45 pm on WEDNESDAY April 4th. Bring MONEY!!!!Diva
end of season party will begin at 5:30 on Friday,
April 27th at Sande’s house. Families are invited
Please RSVP to Sande with a head count/age of kids,
